I wish the story had stayed in England and gone in an original direction–the author had done a good job of laying the foundation for a fresh follow-up to the classic story without the need to actively re-visit it.

Mary’s no wilting violet, and she’s far more empowered than Bella Swann, but she’s still a little prudish and idealistic, which is treated as part of her character, and a flaw at that. I highly recommend to all who enjoy Gothic literature. One night a soldier named Private Smith falls asleep on his watch, and Germans invade the trench.

As Harker’s relationship with John’s sister Lily deepens, it’s up to John and Mary to save her from a great evil. Would recommend this book. I’ve never read the actual Dracula book but I did find this to be very interesting and kept my interest the entire way through. I’m not a fan of epistolary stories, but this grabbed me from the start with the setting and tone.
