Sep 09, Lori rated it it was amazing Shelves: Typically, historically romance writers included some drama to spice up the story but make the mistake of making unbelievably extreme. I found that our heroine was a bit too timid at first but I loved her in duchesx end. To add I enjoy reading Wendy Vella’s regency romances.

Eva soon realized there was not much to learn about social chitchat. It was heartbreaking to see Eva weigh her optimism against reality and how Daniel wrestles with his sense of honor and his father’s final behest. So, that doesn’t make him inclined to be warm to Eva. After the wedding, Daniel vows to leave Eva at his country estate and return to London. Not to mention the leads felt shallow.

Review: Duchess by Chance by Wendy Vella

What I’ve learned in many years of reading romances is that a marriage of convenience is rarely convenient for the hero and the heroine. I did knock off a star because of Daniel’s determination to consummate the marriage, despite Eva begging and crying and trying to run away, that was difficult to read. Jun 14, Heather rated it really liked it Shelves: In his eyes, she had crossed him — or more importantly, her family had, and he was not going to differentiate between the two.

The rocks in the road are there from the beginning, with the H and h forced into marriage by their fathers, with the attitudes you would expect them to have. Vella doesn’t really delve into Eva’s backstory but does provide enough hints to give her readers the idea that Eva’s life had been filled with hardship and abuse. There were never any down times duchrss the story dragged, and it had a nice smooth pace throughout.

The Dowager Duchess and her friends help launch her into society. She hasn’t had the best life, with her awful family, but she learned how to hide from their cruelty and, when she got away, she didn’t let her past keep her down. Eva’s father, older brothers and their friend continue to harass Eva and blackmail her. However, it was incredibly predictable and in some cases dissapointing.

With her newfound friend and neighbor, Claire Belmont, Eva casts off her dowdy dresses and all remnants of her past life and embraces her new one — and she loves it. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. The newly made Duke of Stratton starts this story with a forced marriage to a total stranger the Miss Eva Winchcomb. The premise caught my attention quickly and I dived velka into it. Vella knows vellla too much is too much. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. This is a very well done Regency romance.

Review: Duchess by Chance by Wendy Vella | Rainy Thursdays

Eva has finally escaped her awful father and older brothers and into the arms of her new husband. My rating for this book is 3. All the problems that awaited them outside the bedroom door were left there when they entered at night.

To top it off, her history is wrong, including her fashion history. Despite this, they find their own way in life and learn wwendy love each other. The story line and the characters are well developed, the requisite villains and the supportive characters are well done, and the travel toward the HEA moves swiftly without a lot of extraneous padding and unnecessary details.

I love him already and he deserves his own story: Jun 09, Heidi rated it it was ok Shelves: Duchess by Chance, by Wendy Vella, is a sweet and entertaining Regency romance. His honorable character shines brightly throughout the story, and I could feel his desire to protect Eva. Cute story, but something that I may have already read before.

Duchess By Chance

Can they make their marriage real despite coming from two completely different worlds? There’s always just enough romance with a bit of steam and several twists and turns. I thought she was great and I really liked her.

Which, she only seemed to have against the guy that is chasing her. She ended up as a woman who finally managed to stand up, to face the ones who hurt her. Despite the shock, this is an unexpected opportunity to escape her horrid family — one she grasps at with both hands. Cute story, but something that I may hav Historical English romance with an arranged marriage set-up that turns from bitterness to friendship to love in a steady meaningful way.

When her husband leaves her wdndy Stratton Hall after a failed attempt duchese consummating the marriage, Eva slowly lets her guard down and aendy her first taste of freedom and independence. Supported chabce an equally diverse cast, Vella clearly knows how to write realistic and entertaining characters. Daniel resented his father, even more so when he found out on his father’s deathbed that he is betrothed to a woman he’s never met.

Because Daniel’s father was so hated by his son, Daniel finds it hard to allow himself to love his wife.
