For all the darkness swirling around, and for all the darkness inside of them, Ellroy’s three men here have a very real, if fractured, sense of goodness. That being said, it’s a very engrossing read indeed.

It’s by no means a perfect book, and certainly not as assured or p Vintage Ellroy, with non-stop attitude, nastiness and above all, voice.
